Beautiful charts with Kraken in a fraction of the time

Tableau 8.0 (codename Kraken) is released today! One of the 90+ new features in this release is bubble charts. New York Times had a great infographic about Obama’s 2013 budget proposal that heavily relied on bubbles. I wanted to see whether I can get something similar in less than 15 minutes. Below are the results.

A similar chart (per department) built in Tableau with a few clicks

I downloaded the data from www.gpo.gov almost a year after this article was published and article didn’t provide the actual dataset the author used, so numbers may look slightly different. Not to mention the formatting, which I didn’t try to match exactly.
